The Punjab government has approved 5,000 laptops for students in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), with the provincial cabinet giving the go-ahead for their distribution among students of public-sector educational institutions.
According to reports, the laptops will be distributed on the basis of merit, academic performance and institutional needs.
The initiative will cover students enrolled in public-sector colleges and universities across AJK. The Punjab government will collect student data from the relevant educational institutions to determine the distribution of laptops.
Officials said the allocation formula will take into account factors including the number of students, academic performance and specific requirements of each institution.
Following cabinet approval, the Punjab and AJK governments will coordinate to finalize the mechanism for supplying and distributing the devices.
The laptop initiative aims to improve students’ access to modern technology, online learning resources and digital educational tools.
Providing laptops to students is also expected to support academic research, online courses, digital skills development and other technology-based learning activities.
The programme represents cooperation between Punjab and AJK governments to expand access to digital education among students in public-sector institutions.
