The Punjab government has put on hold its plan to finalise special rules for the 2026-27 academic calendar, ordering the School Education Department to submit fresh recommendations before any final decision is made.
The decision came during a Punjab Cabinet meeting where Secretary School Education Mudassar Riaz Malik presented a summary outlining the proposed special rules for the upcoming academic session.
After reviewing the proposal, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the department to reconsider its recommendations rather than approve the calendar in its current form.
The School Education Department has now been tasked with preparing a revised set of recommendations for the 2026-27 academic calendar. These new proposals will be presented to the cabinet again, and the final rules for the academic year will be decided only after this review is complete.
No timeframe has been given for when the revised recommendations will be ready or when the matter will return to the cabinet for approval.
