Islamabad authorities have arrested 374 Chinese nationals in a joint crackdown by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), according to sources.
The FIA detained 258 Chinese citizens under the Foreigners Act after they failed to produce documents verifying their legal stay in Pakistan. The NCCIA arrested the remaining 116 Chinese nationals during operations against illegal call centres functioning in Islamabad.
The detainees are being held at Sparco Plaza in Gulberg Greens, which the Islamabad Chief Commissioner has officially declared a sub-jail for individuals arrested by the FIA. The notification took effect immediately upon issuance.
Under the order, the Director General of the FIA has been made responsible for the security of the sub-jail and its inmates. Facility records will be maintained by an officer of Grade 17 or above, the notification adds.
Sparco Plaza, also known as Sparco Twin Towers, was originally developed as a mixed-use commercial and residential project in Gulberg Greens, Islamabad.
