The Xiaomi 18 Ultra, which was rumored to launch in December this year, has reportedly been canceled. A new leak claims Xiaomi will launch only three smartphones in its upcoming 18 series. The source made the claim in a post on X. According to the source, Xiaomi will skip the 18 Ultra this year. Instead, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will reportedly become the top model in the new flagship lineup.
That does not mean Xiaomi has ended its Ultra series. The company could still launch a successor to the Xiaomi 17 Ultra next year. Rising memory and storage costs may be behind the decision to skip the model this year.
The same leak also points to changes for Vivo and Oppo. Both companies may keep their upcoming Ultra smartphones exclusive to the Chinese market.
The Vivo X300 Ultra and Oppo Find X9 Ultra reached global markets. However, their successors, the Vivo X500 Ultra and Oppo Find X10 Ultra, may not launch outside China.
Vivo has usually kept its Ultra phones exclusive to China. That changed with the X300 Ultra, which reached several international markets. The company could now return to its earlier approach.
If these reports prove accurate, the move could disappoint buyers in other markets. Many users were expecting the new Ultra phones to receive wider global launches.
