Google just made a massive announcement for the Pakistani youth. Google will provide its Gemini subscription completely free of cost to all students across Pakistan for one full year. This major initiative aims to rapidly expand artificial intelligence access among the country’s young population.
The announcement took place recently as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially unveiled the foundation plaque for Google’s highly anticipated Pakistan office.
A Massive Boost for Digital Skills With Google Free Gemini Subscription
Google Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy, Wilson L. White, shared the exciting news during the landmark event. He stated that the free Gemini access will empower Pakistani students to learn, conduct research, and develop critical digital skills.
However, students will have to wait just a few more days to claim the offer. White noted that Google plans to release a formal announcement later this week. This upcoming update will outline the exact eligibility criteria and detail the complete registration process for the free Gemini subscription.
Google’s Growing Economic Impact
Establishing a local Google office marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s digital transformation journey. During his speech, White highlighted Google’s historical commitment to the country. Over the past decade, the company has generated more than Rs. 3.9 trillion in economic activity for Pakistani households and businesses.
Furthermore, Google has successfully supported over 960,000 local jobs. Additionally, the company has already upskilled more than one million Pakistanis through its specialized career certificate programs and active collaborations with local schools and teachers.
Aligning with the $30 Billion IT Export Vision
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that equipping Pakistan’s large youth demographic with modern technology will transform the nation’s economic prospects. He firmly reiterated his ambition to develop Pakistan into a massive $30 billion IT export hub.
Consequently, White confirmed that Google’s internal goals closely align with the Prime Minister’s vision. Moving forward, Google will focus its contributions on three major areas. First, the company will invest directly in the Pakistani people. Second, it will support the manufacturing and infrastructure required for export hardware. Third, it will heavily invest in local businesses.
US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker and Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja also attended the event to witness the foundation plaque unveiling and support the new initiatives.
