The Punjab government has approved the recruitment of retired military personnel as Monitoring and Evaluation Officers (MEOs) to oversee educational institutions across 22 districts of the province, with the hiring process now underway under the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF).
Successful candidates will be hired on one-year contracts carrying a monthly salary of Rs60,000, along with other benefits and allowances as per Education Department rules. The contract may be extended after the first year. Selected officers will also be provided government motorcycles to carry out monitoring duties.
Applications from retired Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) are being accepted until September 7. Applicants must hold a graduation degree, be aged between 30 and 55 years, and possess a Punjab domicile. Experience in information technology and good physical health are also required.
In the first phase, 28 Monitoring and Evaluation Officers will be recruited, comprising 21 retired military personnel and seven civilians. Recruitment for the remaining districts will take place in a second phase.
The Education Department has also decided to extend the expiring contracts of around 150,000 school teaching interns, who are employed on daily wages and lump-sum salaries across schools, by nine months.
A summary seeking approval has been sent to the Punjab chief minister. Under the proposed extension, the interns’ contracts would remain valid until the end of the current academic session in March 2027. A formal notification will be issued once the summary receives approval.
