Gamers have waited five long years for an update on the ‘Splinter Cell’ remake. Recently, a massive leak finally broke the silence. Recent reports have uncovered several screenshots of the highly anticipated game. A developer who worked on the project left these images in their portfolio. Consequently, fans now have a tangible glimpse into Sam Fisher’s upcoming return.
Splinter Cell Remake & A Faithful Return to Tbilisi
Specifically, these leaked images showcase environments from Tbilisi, Georgia. This location serves as a key setting from the original 2002 game. Here, Sam Fisher famously investigates the disappearance of two CIA operatives. The screenshots reveal an urban courtyard packed with nostalgic details. For instance, viewers can easily spot detailed storefronts, graffiti, and political posters.
Furthermore, Ubisoft is clearly retaining the original story’s exact timeframe. Torn flyers scattered across the environment prominently display the year 2004. Meanwhile, political propaganda features Kombayn Nikoladze, the original Georgian president and main antagonist. Other posters even promise police reform and a fight against corruption. Interestingly, developers also hid a Russian-language Easter egg in the assets. This hidden text jokingly tells players to stop looking for hidden meaning and just continue playing.
Early Builds & Core Stealth
However, fans must manage their expectations regarding the visual lighting. These screenshots date back to at least 2024. Therefore, they represent an early, unfinished build of the game. The images feature uncharacteristically bright lighting for a stealth franchise. This bright setup likely indicates an environment showcase rather than actual nighttime gameplay.
Ubisoft Toronto originally announced this remake in 2021. Currently, the studio is rebuilding the classic from the ground up using the powerful Snowdrop engine. Most importantly, developers promised to maintain the game’s linear stealth structure. They explicitly refused to turn it into an open-world experience. Instead, the team focuses heavily on modernizing enemy AI, lighting, animation, and audio. Through these modern upgrades, Ubisoft aims to preserve the core identity of darkness, gadgets, and careful planning.
Despite this massive leak, Ubisoft still has not announced an official release date.
