Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have introduced a digital driving license system across the province, enabling motorists to access a valid e-license on their smartphones within minutes and eliminating the risk of being fined for not carrying a physical license.
Under the new system, drivers can enter their CNIC number into the Rabta mobile application to instantly generate an electronic version of their driving license, which appears directly on their phone screen.
The digital license removes the need to carry a physical card, addressing a common source of traffic fines and delays at checkpoints.
To ensure smooth implementation, all traffic personnel in Peshawar have been issued formal instructions to recognize the e-license as a legally valid document.
Officers have been directed not to issue fines to drivers who present the digital version through the app instead of a physical license, effectively giving the electronic format the same legal standing as the printed one.
CTO Peshawar Dr. Muhammad Zahid described the initiative as a major step forward in the traffic police department’s shift toward digital solutions, noting that it reflects a broader push to modernize service delivery and reduce reliance on paper-based documentation.
Authorities indicated the measure is aimed at making the licensing process more accessible while easing the burden on both commuters and traffic enforcement staff.
The rollout in Peshawar is expected to serve as a model for extending the digital licensing system to other districts across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
