Blizzard shocked fans at BlizzCon 2026 today by officially announcing ‘Diablo V’. Furthermore, the developer confirmed a 2029 release window. This launch will arrive just six years after ‘Diablo IV’. Consequently, it marks a remarkably quick turnaround compared to the 11-year gap between ‘Diablo III’ and ‘Diablo IV’.
Meet the First Three Classes
During the “Diablo V: Forging the Next Era” panel, Blizzard revealed the first three playable characters. Moreover, the developer promised the largest class roster in franchise history at launch. Right now, players can expect a strong mix of familiar faces and fresh mechanics.
- Plague Knight: This is a completely new class to the franchise. They are the embodiment of walking death. During combat, they roam the battlefield spreading disease and pestilence. Ultimately, they consume this sickness to gain immense power.
- Demon Hunter: This returning veteran stalks the forces of Hell once again. They wield twin crossbows to annihilate their prey. Additionally, they strike from the shadows and leap aggressively across the battlefield.
- Monk: The Monk brings martial perfection back to Sanctuary. Therefore, they batter demons to a pulp with their fists. Furthermore, they call down holy power to smite enemies blocking their path.
Classic Itemization Returns
Blizzard is heavily modifying how loot works. Specifically, the team draws deep inspiration from Diablo 2’s design philosophy. Their ultimate goal is to create items that feel readable, memorable, and worth chasing across hundreds of hours of gameplay.
Because of this shift, inventory management matters more than ever. Like classic Diablo titles, larger items will take up more inventory slots. Therefore, players must actively manage their bags while exploring Sanctuary.
Blizzard Explains The Diablo V Road to Release
Currently, Diablo V remains in very early development. However, Blizzard views this BlizzCon reveal as the start of an ongoing conversation with the community. Starting in 2027, the developer will share regular updates. These updates will showcase development progress, guiding ideas, and new features taking shape.
Meanwhile, current players have nothing to worry about. Blizzard confirmed that Diablo 4 Seasons will continue normally while the team builds the upcoming sequel.
