Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, along with Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani today held a joint press briefing regarding the implementation and progress of the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme.
Speaking at the briefing, Federal Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja stated that amid volatility in global oil markets resulting from regional tensions in the Middle East, the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme was aimed at providing direct and targeted relief to citizens most affected by rising fuel costs. She reiterated that the scheme provides fuel relief to eligible 2- and 3-wheelers, including motorcycles, Qingqi and rickshaws, as well as cars up to 800cc. The scheme has been designed to ensure that relief reaches eligible citizens through a simple, transparent and technology-enabled mechanism.
Minister IT also displayed live dashboard highlighting number of total registrations, token generated, token redeemed and provincial breakup of the figures. Since its launch , 5,916,185 citizens have been registered under the scheme. A total of 6,189,568 fuel relief tokens have been generated, of which 4,797,734 have been successfully redeemed.
The province- and region-wise breakdown of redeemed tokens is as, Islamabad Capital Territory: 210,032, Punjab: 3,076,185, Sindh: 1,216,266, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 267,460, Balochistan: 6,761, Azad Jammu & Kashmir: 23,796 and Gilgit-Baltistan: 4,845. The Minister underscored that the figures reflected the broad outreach of the scheme, with fuel relief being availed by eligible citizens across all provinces and regions of the country.
She further stated that a 24/7 control room at the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication was monitoring the implementation of the scheme across the country. The control room was overseeing the process from registration and token generation to redemption, with a focus on ensuring transparency and timely resolution of issues.
