Sazgar Engineering Works Limited (SAZEW) is preparing to expand its presence in Pakistan’s new energy vehicle market with the planned launch of the BAIC Cannon Alpha in the coming months. The company is also expanding its lineup with additional hybrid and plug-in hybrid models.
According to company management, the BAIC Cannon Alpha is expected to be introduced at a competitive price. SAZEW also plans to add the Tank 300 and Haval Jolion Max to its portfolio, strengthening its presence in the SUV and pickup segments.
The company is increasing its focus on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), with management expecting the upcoming government auto policy to provide further support for the segment. SAZEW has already entered the PHEV market with the Haval H6 and has announced plans for additional PHEV models, including the Cannon Alpha.
SAZEW is currently absorbing the higher GST burden instead of immediately passing the full increase on to customers. Management said the strategy is aimed at limiting the impact of higher taxes on buyers while the automotive industry awaits greater clarity on the government’s new auto policy.
The company is also expanding its retail network. SAZEW currently operates 32 dealerships across Pakistan and expects another five to six outlets to become operational soon. The expansion is expected to strengthen its sales and after-sales service network.
Meanwhile, competition in Pakistan’s NEV market is increasing as automakers and new entrants introduce hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles. SAZEW has also announced plans to introduce BAIC’s ARCFOX electric vehicle brand in Pakistan, although details regarding specific models, prices and launch dates have not yet been disclosed.
With new vehicle launches, additional dealerships and a greater focus on PHEVs, SAZEW is continuing to diversify its portfolio as Pakistan’s new energy vehicle market develops.
