Meta’s Threads app is testing new creative tools that let users overlay quoted posts on top of photos and videos. Reportedly, some select creators already have access to the updated editing menu.
The new quote post format goes beyond the existing text-based repost system. Users who receive the update see a “Quote” option when posting attached images. They can then choose overlays from their liked posts, saved posts, or their own updates. This creates an integrated visual display where the quoted post sits directly on the image, adding context and visual interest in a single frame.
Threads also introduced additional creative tools alongside the overlay feature. Users can now add stickers to their posts, experiment with different layouts, and split a single photo into as many as nine separate parts. The Threads team stated that these tools represent “just the foundation for a lot more creative tools we’re building to help you express yourself.”
The visual quote format follows a pattern that other platforms already established. X added a similar video reaction feature in June 2026 that lets users record selfie video overlays on posts. TikTok uses its green screen functionality for reaction-based content where creators respond to other posts visually. Threads adapts these concepts for its own format while adding unique elements like the photo-splitting tool.
These creative additions arrive as Threads continues to grow its user base aggressively. The platform reached 500 million monthly active users in June 2026, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg suggested the app may have already surpassed X as the leading short-form text platform. The visual engagement tools give creators more reasons to post original content rather than simply reshare text.
Pakistani creators and brands building audiences on Threads can now explore richer content formats that go beyond plain text updates with these new visual tools.
