Apple is giving developers an early start on supporting its upcoming iPhone Duo. The device will open for pre-orders on October 16. Deliveries are set to begin on October 23. The company has now shared guidelines to help developers optimize apps for the new iPhone. Apple wants apps and games to offer a smooth experience on the device from launch day.
Developers must use the new Xcode 27.1 to build or recompile their apps. Apple has already released the development tool, and it is available for download. Developers can now submit their updated apps and games through App Store Connect. Apps built or recompiled with Xcode 27.1 will also receive a new App Store badge.
The badge will tell users that the app has been optimized for the iPhone Duo. This should make it easier for users to identify apps that support the new device. Apple has also announced a new App Store requirement. Starting April 2027, every new app must include a screenshot showing the app on an iPhone Duo.
The company has also published additional resources for developers. In addition, Apple is offering in-person iPhone Duo workshops to help teams update their apps. The workshops are designed to give developers hands-on guidance before the device reaches customers. Developers interested in attending can sign up through Apple’s developer resources.
With pre-orders beginning on October 16, developers now have a clear path to update their apps. This should help ensure more apps are ready when iPhone Duo deliveries begin on October 23.
