The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) has begun a nationwide awareness and training campaign to familiarize women beneficiaries with its new digital payment system.
Under the system, beneficiaries can collect their payments from any authorized retailer of partner banks across Pakistan once they receive a confirmation SMS.
Additional Secretary BISP Dr. Asmat Nawaz, speaking at the opening training session, said staff training, capacity building and broad awareness among beneficiaries were essential for the system’s success.
He said the interoperability feature allows beneficiaries to withdraw payments in any city at their convenience. The facility will reduce reliance on designated payment centers, cut travel costs and make financial assistance easier to access.
Dr. Nawaz directed BISP staff to guide beneficiaries on the correct use of digital wallets, the protection of their mobile phones and SIM cards, the receipt of their full payment amounts, and the safekeeping of transaction SMS messages.
He said unauthorized deductions from payments would not be tolerated. Women with payment-related complaints can call the BISP helpline at 0800-26477 or visit their local tehsil office.
He also acknowledged the support of UNICEF’s Social Policy Section in organizing the training activities.
