An alleged leak of A-Levels Pure Mathematics Paper 1 (Variant 12) has triggered widespread concern in Pakistan, after the exam paper reportedly surfaced online hours before students were due to sit the examination.
The controversy has fueled outrage among students and parents, raising questions about exam security and fairness in the Cambridge assessment system administered through the British Council.
Reports circulating online claim the paper appeared on social media and online forums before the exam began, with allegations linking the leak to a Reddit account identified as “Strict_Paper_6341.”
Authorities have not officially confirmed the authenticity of the claims, and the matter remains under investigation.
The alleged breach has prompted strong reactions from candidates and families, many arguing that months of preparation and significant financial costs have been put at risk.
Reports indicate around 25,000 students in Pakistan were due to sit the paper, with exam and registration costs reportedly around PKR 50,000 per candidate.
The incident has intensified scrutiny of examination safeguards, with criticism directed at the British Council and broader concerns emerging over administrative oversight in high-stakes international examinations.
The controversy has also revived concerns over previous paper leak allegations, adding pressure for reforms and accountability.
Students and parents are demanding clarity on whether the paper was compromised, as well as guidance on whether retesting or other corrective measures may be considered.
The incident has once again placed examination integrity at the center of debate in Pakistan’s education sector.
