Apple used its WWDC keynote to unveil software updates like iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27. As expected, most announcements focused on developers and Apple’s growing AI plans. However, the company also revealed several consumer-focused features, including the new AI-powered Siri.
CarPlay also received important updates during the event. Apple introduced audio scrubbing controls inside the Now Playing interface, making it easier for users to move through songs and podcasts. The company also improved GPS accuracy and navigation performance. In addition, apps will now support a mini-player for audio playback, while Apple says overall stability has improved across the platform.
The biggest CarPlay announcement, however, came with support for video apps. Apple will now allow developers to build CarPlay apps that can stream videos directly on supported vehicle displays.
Users will also be able to stream videos from their iPhones through AirPlay. For safety reasons, video playback will only work when the vehicle is parked and stationary.
Apple also confirmed that its new Siri AI experience will work directly inside CarPlay. The feature will require an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or newer models.
All these new features are part of iOS 27, which is already available through Apple’s developer beta program. Meanwhile, the public beta is expected to launch in July. Apple will then release the stable version in September alongside the upcoming iPhone 18 series.
