Apple has released iOS 26.6 and iPadOS 26.6 for compatible iPhone and iPad models. The latest updates include 78 security fixes, making them important for users to install. Apple recommends updating your devices as soon as possible. If you have not received an update notification, you can check for it manually.
Go to Settings > General > Software Update on your iPhone or iPad. The update should then appear, allowing you to download and install it.
In addition to the security fixes, iOS 26.6 also brings an update to the Spotlight search index. Apple is preparing the system for the major Spotlight changes expected with iOS 27.
The upcoming iOS 27 update will also bring major changes to Siri. Both Spotlight and Siri will rely on a new indexing system to find and process content stored on the device.
However, the indexing process may take some time. Users testing the iOS 27 beta have reported that reindexing can take a week or even longer.
With iOS 26.6, Apple has started some of this work ahead of the iOS 27 release. This could help make the reindexing process smoother when users move to the next major software update.
The update also adds a new “Blocked Contacts Limit Reached” alert. Overall, iOS 26.6 focuses mainly on security while also laying some groundwork for features coming with iOS 27.
