Classic Comeback for PlayStation With COD: Black Ops 1 & 2
Fans widely consider Black Ops 1 as one of the best games in the entire franchise. Its Zombies mode remains incredibly popular today. Additionally, features like Wager Matches left a permanent mark on the series. Similarly, Black Ops 2 dominates many fan-favorite lists. It delivered a highly innovative single-player campaign. Moreover, it offered some of the most enjoyable multiplayer experiences and iconic maps in Call of Duty history.
Previously, these PlayStation ports leaked several weeks ago through backend data. Many fans expected an official reveal at recent major gaming events. However, Summer Game Fest and PlayStation State of Play passed without any mention of the projects. Now, the official announcement tweet simply mentions “PlayStation consoles”. Therefore, this phrasing strongly suggests a release for both PS4 and PS5.
The Xbox & Nintendo Situation
Meanwhile, Xbox players face a frustrating reality. Xbox currently owns Call of Duty. Despite this fact, the announcement included no native ports for Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S. Currently, Xbox users must rely on older backward compatibility to play these games. Naturally, many players would prefer native versions for their console of choice.
In addition, the announcement completely skipped the Nintendo Switch 2. Many view this absence as a massive missed opportunity. If fan demand grows loud enough, these classic Black Ops games might make their way to more platforms in the future.
Lingering Questions About DLC
Currently, several crucial details remain a mystery. For instance, we do not know if the new releases will automatically include the acclaimed Black Ops DLC packs. Alternatively, the expansions might require separate purchases. Fans expect more information to surface regarding this issue very soon.
