Kidnappers in Karachi tortured a cryptocurrency trader on Tuesday before forcing the victim to transfer millions of dollars from a digital wallet into their account.
The armed suspects abducted the trader from Kamran Chowrangi using a luxury vehicle and stole his mobile phones along with valuable personal belongings before fleeing.
Local police registered a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the short term kidnapping and initiated a detailed investigation to trace the digital transactions and find suspects.
This specific criminal abduction occurred amid a broader crime wave in the metropolis, which officially recorded 4671 total incidents during the single month of May.
Official statistics reveal that street criminals targeted citizens ruthlessly throughout May, snatching 1860 mobile phones at gunpoint across various prominent neighborhoods in the city.
Furthermore, criminals stole 2240 motorcycles and snatched another 445 motorbikes at gunpoint, making two wheeled vehicles the primary targets for local theft during the month.
Automobile theft also persisted heavily, with at least 20 vehicles snatched at gunpoint and another 106 reported stolen from various residential sections of the city.
The data compiled by local authorities also recorded 1 bank robbery and 10 separate incidents of financial extortion over the course of the same period.
