Facebook, the most widely used social network with its 2 billion users is planning to change its news feed. To counter the challenges that it faced it earlier where its news feed manipulated and caused negative effects on users, Facebook is making some big changes to its news feed, as said by the company’s founder Mark Zuckerberg.

The changes are going to be big in a sense as users will see fewer news articles, viral videos, and other media content. Instead of this, they will be seeing more smaller pictures and status updates from your family or friends. Facebook is making these changes to bring its social network back to its sole purpose which will be more focused on its users, instead of being corporates and businesses centric, which changed over the years.

Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a post on the Facebook page, that we want to enable people to get more “meaningful interactions” and want to assure that well being of users isn’t hurt by spending time on Facebook. According to him,

*“We feel a responsibility to make sure our services aren’t just fun to use, but also good for people’s well-being. By making these changes, I expect the time people spend on Facebook and some measures of engagement will go down. But I also expect the time you do spend on Facebook will be more valuable.”*

Facebook has faced severe circumstances during the past year as it was alleged over being influenced by Russian propaganda agencies, which spread fake news using its platform. However, now Facebook’s intelligent algorithms have the power to decide what people see online and can certainly impact on how people see the world.

This comes after yesterday’s news where Facebook was reported to be testing a new local news and events section in local communities for local publishers and organizations. This will also help to reduce the reach of local content for the local community.
