The Federal Cabinet has officially approved Pakistan’s first-ever National E-Sports Policy. This landmark decision marks a massive step forward for the local digital gaming sector.
Earlier this week, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP), Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, shared the details during a press conference in Islamabad. Currently, an estimated 50 to 60 million young Pakistanis actively engage in e-sports. Therefore, the government is moving quickly to formalize and support this massive digital community.
From Draft to Official National E-Sports Policy
The journey to this approval took several months. Back in October 2025, the government first announced it was developing a national e-sports framework. At that time, officials noted the need to support game developers and digital innovators. Now, as of July 2026, the government has transitioned from drafting the policy to active execution.
Furthermore, the government views e-sports as much more than just competitive gaming. Officials formally recognize it as a multi-billion-dollar global game development industry. Pakistan is now determined to secure its rightful share of this international market.
Dedicated Arenas & a New Federation
With the policy now approved, infrastructure development is the next major priority. The government will establish dedicated E-Sports Arenas and Game Development Centers across the country this year. These facilities will provide young gamers and developers with the tools they need to succeed.
Additionally, Pakistan will establish its first official E-Sports Federation within the next two months. This governing body will likely help structure competitive gaming nationwide. Alongside these arenas, the government is also launching the National Innovation Awards to encourage young tech innovators. Meanwhile, existing National Incubation Centers will continue providing essential opportunities for technology startups and emerging entrepreneurs.
Nurturing the Next Global Champions
Pakistan already boasts incredible talent on the global stage. For instance, the government specifically highlighted the achievements of Arslan “Arslan Ash” Siddique, who recently secured his eighth world title. Previously, he won his sixth Evolution Championship Series (EVO) title in August 2025 by defeating another prominent Pakistani competitor, Atif Butt.
Consequently, the government wants to produce many more international champions like Arslan. To achieve this, the PMYP plans to identify talented youth directly from local streets, neighborhoods, and towns. Afterward, the government will provide these players with world-class professional training. Ultimately, this new policy aims to empower young gamers and provide them with real opportunities to compete and excel globally.
