Halo Studios recently revealed massive updates for the highly anticipated Halo: Campaign Evolved. The game officially launches on July 28, 2026. Fans can play the title on both Xbox Series X and PS5. Furthermore, pre-orders are currently live across all storefronts for a modest $49.99 USD.
Developers completely reimagined the classic 2001 original using Unreal Engine 5. Consequently, the studio abandoned its proprietary Slipspace Engine. The remake also modernizes the core gameplay. Specifically, the developers added the controversial sprint mechanic to the original formula.

Operation: Meteorite Brings New Halo Campaign Evolved Story Missions
Halo Studios is giving fans three brand-new prequel story missions titled Operation: Meteorite. These missions occur exactly one year before the events of Combat Evolved. Players will follow Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. Together, they infiltrate and take down a Covenant research vessel. Therefore, fans can expect a heavily expanded role for Sgt. Johnson.
The new missions offer diverse gameplay. You will experience standard ground combat, a space sequence piloting a Covenant Phantom variant, and a classic Warthog run. Additionally, Operation: Meteorite introduces an armored Brute enemy type. This specific foe exists to punish players on Legendary difficulty. Furthermore, the developers integrated various weapon types from across the entire Halo franchise.
More Remakes & Xbox Exclusives on the Horizon
This release raises questions about future franchise remakes. Multiple insiders state that Halo 2 and Halo 3 will receive similar Unreal Engine 5 remakes. Halo 2 serves as a prime candidate for expanded story missions due to its rushed original development cycle.
Meanwhile, Xbox continues to build a massive lineup to prove that classic Xbox is back. Later this year, the company will launch Gears of War: E-Day. Finally, a highly anticipated Fable reboot arrives in February 2027. Both of these titles will join the Day One Xbox Game Pass roster.
