Recently, Nintendo officially revealed the map for ‘The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ remake. This upcoming title celebrates the franchise’s 40th anniversary. Nintendo plans to release the game this November. Consequently, the gaming giant hosted a dedicated Nintendo Direct to showcase fresh gameplay and a massive list of new features.
A Fresh Look at Ocarina of Time Remake Map
Nintendo uploaded a slew of new screenshots to the game’s Japanese website. Among these images, fans finally got their first look at the new ‘Kingdom of Hyrule’. The developers stylized the map to look like a drawing on parchment.
Furthermore, the map highlights significant expansions. Iconic locations like the Ice Cavern and the Kakariko Village Graveyard appear visibly larger on the map. Additionally, Nintendo added a brand-new stone bridge connecting Hyrule Field directly to Zora’s River.
The physical world features major overhauls as well. Developers entirely redesigned Kokiri Forest. They changed several pathways and revamped major locations inside the area. Meanwhile, Hyrule Castle Town received a massive expansion. Players can now explore back alleys far beyond the main plaza. As a result, they can discover brand-new mini-games scattered throughout the town.
Revamped Gameplay Mechanics
The Ocarina of Time remake introduces several modern mechanics. First, players can now use motion-controlled aiming with their Joy-Cons. Second, the game supports voice input for playing the Ocarina itself.
Moreover, Nintendo added a “Threads of Time” feature. This addition acts as a highly accessible story synopsis to help players catch up on the plot. Finally, the developers fundamentally changed the game’s time system. Time now flows continuously, even when Link enters towns or settlements. To balance this change, Nintendo extended the length of the day and night cycles.
Limited-Edition Switch 2 & Live-Action Movie
The gaming news did not stop at software. Nintendo also announced a special limited-edition Nintendo Switch 2 console. This Zelda 40th anniversary bundle launches alongside the game. It features green Joy-Cons sporting Zelda-themed designs. Additionally, Nintendo will release a matching Pro Controller. This marks only the second time the Switch 2 has received a special edition controller.
Beyond the gaming world, the franchise is heading to theaters. The live-action ‘Legend of Zelda’ movie will premiere on April 30, 2027. The film stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda. Interestingly, the movie will not feature a subtitle linking it to any existing game. Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto stated that the reason for this decision will become obvious once fans watch the film.
