The United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) has named IBA Karachi’s Womenx Program as 2017 ‘Outstanding Specialty Entrepreneurship Program Award’ winner.

IBA Karachi’s Womenx is a World-Bank funded initiative aimed at supporting women business owners through business education, networking and mentorship opportunities. USASBE is world’s largest professional organisation dedicated to advancing entrepreneurship. Its mission is to provide the network to advance knowledge and foster business development through entrepreneurship education and research.

The Excellence in Entrepreneurship Education Awards were established by USASBE to recognize excellence in entrepreneurship education at the programmatic level.

The ‘Outstanding Specialty Entrepreneurship Program Award’ is given to an educational institution that offers high-quality innovative programs to educate future generations of entrepreneurs in a niche or specialty area. This award is given each year for a program that shows innovation, quality, sustainability, comprehensiveness, depth of support, and impact.

IBA Karachi represented Pakistan and was competing with many international universities. The other two finalists were WIN Lab, Babson College and Meadows School of the Arts, Southern Methodist University. Dr. Shahid Qureshi, Program Director AMAN Center for Entrepreneurial Development (AMAN-CED), received the award on behalf of IBA. The ceremony was held on 21st January 2017 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This is the first time in the history of USASBE awards that a university outside the USA has won this award.
