A recent resume slip-up has reignited hopes for a new entry in a beloved fighting franchise. An artist at Warner Bros. Games accidentally leaked the existence of Injustice 3.
MP1st originally discovered the leak on an artist’s resume. The document explicitly lists Injustice 3. Furthermore, the resume mentions a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy alongside two other unannounced projects.
This new evidence strongly supports ongoing rumors. For instance, two actors apparently shared their involvement with Injustice 3 last year. Additionally, James Gunn hinted at plans for the title last year, along with more DC projects from Rocksteady.
Injustice 3 & Future of NetherRealm Studios
NetherRealm Studios released ‘Injustice 2’ back in 2017. The original ‘Injustice: Gods Among Us’ launched earlier in 2013. The franchise famously replaced Mortal Kombat icons like Scorpion and Katana with DC heroes like Superman and Wonder Woman. Over the years, the property expanded into a full franchise. Warner Bros. released comic adaptations, action figures, and a 2021 animated film.
Currently, a pivot to a new DC fighting game makes strategic sense. Specifically, a new Injustice title would give the Mortal Kombat franchise a necessary break. This move seems logical because Mortal Kombat 1 sales reportedly underperformed expectations.
Expected Roster & DC Gaming Drought
If Injustice 3 launches, NetherRealm will likely introduce highly requested characters. For example, Peacemaker represents a very safe bet. He already appeared as a guest fighter in Mortal Kombat 1. Similarly, Dreamer stands as a strong possibility. This hero has already appeared in comics, on television, and as a Fortnite skin.
Currently, DC video games face a severe drought. Recently, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League became a critical and commercial flop. Furthermore, the cancellation of Monolith’s Wonder Woman worsened the situation. As a result, fans are understandably impatient for good news. Hopefully, next month’s release of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will give players something to enjoy while they await an official Injustice 3 announcement.
