Government high and higher secondary schools in Lahore have failed to meet their student enrollment target, prompting the district education authorities to intensify the ongoing admission campaign across the city.
According to the Lahore Education Authority, government schools were assigned a target of enrolling 393,000 students by March 5, 2026. However, current enrollment has reached approximately 390,000 students, leaving authorities around 3,000 students short of the goal.
The overall enrollment target for the 2026 academic year has been set at 430,000 students. To bridge the gap, education officials have directed school heads to increase admissions and ensure that every institution enrolls at least 10 additional students in the coming weeks.
As part of the renewed campaign, schools have also been instructed to conduct door-to-door enrollment drives to identify children who are currently out of school and encourage their admission to nearby government institutions.
Education authorities have emphasized that each school will be held accountable for achieving its assigned enrollment target. Officials warned that school heads who fail to meet the required admission figures may face strict administrative action.
The enrollment drive is part of the Punjab government’s broader efforts to improve access to education, reduce the number of out-of-school children, and increase student participation in public schools across the province.
