Marvel Rivals officially launched Season 8 yesterday, titled “Sins of Alchemax”. The latest update introduces fresh lore, a massive new Vanguard hero, and significant meta shifts. The season’s storyline centers on Moon Girl’s kidnapping by Alchemax. Consequently, Devil Dinosaur leaps into battle to rescue his friend. Furthermore, developer NetEase Games rolled out targeted hero balance changes to shake up the competitive shooter.
Devil Dinosaur joins the Marvel Rivals roster as a formidable Vanguard. He brings a brand-new Team-Up ability alongside The Punisher, called “Primal Punishment”. This combination grants Devil Dinosaur 100 bonus health as the team Anchor. Additionally, it unlocks the “Ancient Judgement” ability for Frank Castle. The “Chilling Assault” Team-Up also received an operational range buff for Luna Snow, Iron Fist, and Emma Frost. NetEase also confirmed more content is on the horizon. Cyclops, the iconic X-Men leader, will officially arrive during the mid-season 8.5 update.
Marvel Rivals Season 8: Vanguard & Strategist Adjustments
NetEase applied several targeted adjustments to keep the metagame balanced. First, Deadpool’s Vanguard variant took a hit. Developers reduced his “Ban Hammer” Ultimate healing from 50 HP/s to 25 HP/s. They also lowered his Dual Desert Eagles’ single-shot damage. Meanwhile, Emma Frost and The Thing received necessary survivability and health buffs to anchor the frontline.
On the Strategist front, Invisible Woman faced strict nerfs. Her “Force Physics” push distance dropped from 12m to 10m, and its damage fell to 50. NetEase implemented this change to check her high pick rate in competitive matches. Mantis received a tactical rework. She traded a portion of her damage boost for a new flat 100 Movement Speed Boost. Additionally, Rocket Raccoon secured buffs to his damage output, healing charges, and Ultimate energy cost. White Fox and Loki both saw reworks to balance their passive and active healing capabilities.
Duelists Receive Massive Buffs
Duelists dominated the buff list in Season 8. Spider-Man players will enjoy a stronger “Spectacular Spin” Ultimate. Its total damage increased from 408 to 450. Similarly, Iron Fist received burst potential upgrades, including a damage boost to his “K’un-Lun Kick” and faster cooldowns.
Phoenix players must adapt their playstyles. NetEase increased her direct hit damage but reduced her “Spark” mark explosion damage. As a result, she can no longer one-shot 250 HP heroes with a single mark and direct Ultimate hit. Finally, Mister Fantastic swapped some crowd control for pure damage. Moon Knight, Squirrel Girl, Star-Lord, and Wolverine all received favorable cooldown reductions or ammo capacity upgrades to maintain relentless pressure on the battlefield.
