A customer has claimed that Meezan Bank has challenged a presidential order directing the bank to refund Rs. 216,000 by filing a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
According to the customer, the bank informed him over the phone that it had approached the IHC instead of implementing the final decision issued by the President’s Secretariat on March 18, 2026.
The customer said the dispute has continued for more than two years. He alleged that his complaint was initially rejected by Meezan Bank, after which he approached the Banking Mohtasib but did not receive relief.
He then filed an appeal with the President’s Secretariat, where a formal hearing was held. The customer represented himself, while Meezan Bank was represented by legal counsel. Following the hearing, the President’s Secretariat reportedly ruled in the customer’s favor and directed the bank to refund Rs. 216,000.
Despite the decision, the customer alleged that the refund has not been made. He said he repeatedly contacted the bank through emails, visited its branch, lodged complaints via the State Bank of Pakistan’s Sunwai portal, and again approached the Banking Mohtasib, but the matter remained unresolved.
According to the customer, he was initially informed that the case was under review by the bank’s senior management. He now claims that Meezan Bank has challenged the presidential decision before the Islamabad High Court.
The customer questioned how an ordinary Pakistani could afford legal representation in the Islamabad High Court to pursue a claim worth Rs. 216,000, arguing that prolonged legal proceedings make access to justice difficult for many citizens.
Meezan Bank has not publicly commented on the customer’s claims at the time of publication. The matter is expected to be decided by the Islamabad High Court.
