Activision has just dropped a massive update at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS). A brand-new trailer for ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’ showcased the game’s highly anticipated campaign. Furthermore, the footage introduced the franchise’s newest antagonist. Beloved Danish actor ‘Mads Mikkelsen’ steps into the role of the primary Modern Warfare 4 villain.
A Rogue Captain Price & New Conflict
The Modern Warfare 4 campaign plunges players into a fresh global crisis. Specifically, a massive war breaks out between North and South Korea. Captain John Price finds himself stuck right in the middle of this deadly conflict.
However, Price is no longer playing by the rules. Following his assassination of General Shepherd at the end of ‘Modern Warfare 3’, Price has officially gone rogue. Consequently, he has now teamed up with the dangerous ‘Las Almas Cartel’. Meanwhile, the remnants of ‘Task Force 141’ receive strict orders to hunt down their former leader.
Players will experience this chaotic story from multiple perspectives. The game introduces Private Park Hyun Jun as the second playable character. This young South Korean recruit will offer a ground-level view of the escalating war.
Mads Mikkelsen Revealed as Main Villain in Modern Warfare 4
Towards the end of the Tokyo Game Show trailer, an intimidating voice targets Captain Price. The mysterious speaker promises to make Price “cry for mercy”. Additionally, he threatens that everyone Price cares for will die in unimaginable ways. The camera then reveals Mads Mikkelsen as the face behind this terrifying threat. Currently, developers keep the exact name of Mikkelsen’s character a secret.
This role adds to Mikkelsen’s impressive video game resume. Previously, he voiced ‘Le Chiffre’ in the 2008 ‘007: Quantum of Solace’ game. He also recently reprised that role in ‘Hitman: World of Assassination’. Between those projects, he famously provided voice and motion capture for ‘Cliff Unger’ in ‘Death Stranding’.
The Unresolved ‘Makarov’ Mystery
Long-time fans immediately noticed a glaring absence in the new footage. Modern Warfare 3 focused heavily on the rise of original trilogy villain Vladimir Makarov. During the final mission of that game, Makarov killed a Task Force 141 member and successfully escaped.
Surprisingly, the Modern Warfare 4 marketing entirely omits Makarov so far. Therefore, players remain in the dark about how Makarov factors into the new storyline. It remains entirely unclear if he connects to Mikkelsen’s new antagonist at all.
