The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has relaxed parking regulations for high-rise buildings in Islamabad, reducing the mandatory parking allocation by roughly a quarter.
Under the revised rules, one car parking space will now be required for every 1,000 square feet of covered area, up from the previous requirement of 750 square feet.
The decision was made during the CDA Board tenth meeting of 2026, chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Sohail Ashraf.
The meeting was attended by the Member Admin, Member Finance and Planning, Member Estate, Member Building, and Vice Chancellor of Punjab University Professor Dr Muhammad Ali, along with other concerned officials.
The board approved amendments to the Building Control Regulations 2023, under which high-rise commercial buildings in Islamabad will now be required to allocate one car parking space for every 1,000 square feet of covered area.
Officials said the revised standard was adopted after reviewing regulatory frameworks used by authorities in other Pakistani cities, bringing Islamabad in line with prevailing norms.
Previously, commercial buildings in Islamabad were required to provide one car parking space for every 750 square feet of covered area.
The decision takes effect immediately and will also apply to the CDA upcoming open auction, scheduled for August 4, 5 and 6. The terms and conditions of the auction will be revised accordingly.
CDA officials said the reduction in mandatory parking space would ease the approval process for building plans and lead to a significant increase in construction activity across Islamabad.
