Authorities in Lahore have seized more than 2,000kg of expired ice cream during a food safety inspection at a Wall’s company cold store. The raid was led by Salma Butt, Special Assistant to the Punjab Chief Minister for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
Officials sealed the cold store and imposed a heavy fine after finding the expired products. The action followed concerns over food safety and the storage of frozen products intended for consumers.
Authorities also stressed that freezing food does not remove the need for regular safety checks. Even food stored at temperatures as low as -22°C remains subject to inspection and quality controls.
In a separate action, officials inspected a Sweet Cream Ice Cream branch after receiving a public complaint. The inspection found contaminated ice, expired syrup, and operations without a valid food license.
The branch was sealed, while authorities confiscated the affected goods. Officials said further legal action will follow after Eid and warned that public health violations will not be tolerated.
The raids also highlight how technology can support food safety inspections. Cold-chain monitoring systems, digital temperature logs, and product tracking can help businesses detect storage problems and expired stock before products reach consumers.
