WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new Payments section for iOS, a development that could signal plans to expand its payment services to additional countries.
The feature is currently under development and has not yet been made available to beta testers. WhatsApp has also not officially confirmed plans to launch payments in new markets.
New Payments Section Under Development
The upcoming Payments section was discovered in WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.33.10.70 through TestFlight.
The new interface is designed to allow users to manage payment-related information directly within WhatsApp. It includes an option to pay contacts, save credit and debit card details, and manage billing and shipping information.
Users could potentially select a contact, enter an amount and send a payment directly through the app.
The payment settings would also allow users to save information such as card expiry dates, CVV details, billing addresses, phone numbers and shipping addresses.
More Countries Listed in Billing Settings
The new payment interface includes a country selector with several countries that are not among WhatsApp’s current payment markets.
Countries listed include the Netherlands, Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Ghana, Italy, Spain and the United States.
The inclusion of these countries does not confirm that WhatsApp Payments will launch there. However, it suggests that WhatsApp may be developing its payment infrastructure with broader international compatibility in mind.
WhatsApp Payments Already Available in Select Markets
WhatsApp currently offers payment services in several markets through different local systems and partnerships.
In India, payments operate through UPI, while Brazil uses PIX for peer-to-peer transfers. In Singapore, WhatsApp works with Stripe and the local PayNow system.
In Mexico, registered businesses can accept payments through transactions conducted directly within WhatsApp chats.
Launching payments in new countries generally requires regulatory approvals and partnerships with local payment providers.
New WhatsApp Leadership Adds Interest
The development comes after WhatsApp appointed Kunal Shah as its new head, replacing Will Cathcart after his seven-year tenure.
Shah is the founder of Indian fintech company CRED and has a background in payments and financial products.
While his appointment does not confirm that WhatsApp will prioritize payments, his fintech experience adds further interest to the company’s ongoing development of payment features.
No Confirmed Expansion Yet
WhatsApp has not announced which countries could receive payments next or when an expansion might take place.
The new Payments section remains in an early development stage and could be changed or abandoned before a public release.
For now, the development only indicates that WhatsApp is working on a broader payment interface for iOS. Any expansion into additional markets would likely depend on technical readiness, partnerships and regulatory approvals.
