The Information Technology (IT) sector of Pakistan has provided IT services to over 100 countries during the last 5 years.
Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication Anusha Rehman informed the National Assembly that “Pakistan’s IT and Information Technology enabled Services (ITeS) Industry has exported software development services, and IT-enabled services such as call center services to over 100 countries, since 2013.” She added that Pakistan exported 71% of its IT services to the United States, United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom during the period of incumbent government.
According to the trade data catalog of the first two half of 2018, a report developed by State Bank of Pakistan, the other main export destinations of Pakistan other than US, UAE and UK are Singapore, Malaysia, Ireland, China, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Germany, Japan, Norway, Netherland, Finland, Austrailia, Sweden, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Switzerland, South Korea, Denmark, Belgium, Sri Lanka, South Africa, France, Oman, Turkey, Qatar, Spain and Kuwait.
Anusha said that Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) along with Pakistan Software Board Export (PSEB) boosted the IT and ITes products of Pakistan through several initiatives taken by the government such as establishing IT parks, software houses, and through international marketing of local IT products. Other key initiatives included IT training and internships, industry advocacy and IT-friendly policymaking.
Last week, while visiting Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Anusha Rehman said it is a pride moment for us that growth rate of exports has jumped to 125% over the last five years. She also added that the IT industry is not only growing in terms of the number of companies and revenue but also in exports and workforce on a yearly basis.
Pakistan’s IT industry is on rapid boom these days it is expected that Information Technology (IT) and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) export of Pakistan will touch the mark of $5 billion by 2020 due to the tax relief government has given to the IT sector.
