The local mobile phone production in Pakistan saw a solid boost in May 2026. Domestic factories produced 2.0 million handsets during the month. Consequently, this marks a 10% increase from the 1.81 million units assembled in April. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) recently released this latest data.
Major smartphone brands experienced contrasting fortunes during the first five months of the year. VGO Tel recorded the strongest growth. The brand increased its production by an impressive 29%. Tecno followed closely with a 24% jump. Similarly, Samsung posted a healthy 7% growth in its output.
On the other hand, several prominent brands faced steep drops. Vivo suffered the worst decline, with its production plunging by 30%. Meanwhile, Itel and Infinix saw their manufacturing drop by 29% and 19%, respectively.

Despite the positive monthly jump in May, the broader timeline shows a slight slowdown. Cumulative output during the first five months of 2026 declined by 7% year over year. Local plants manufactured 11.17 million units between January and May. In comparison, they produced 12.05 million units during the exact same period last year.
Interestingly, a direct year-on-year comparison for May alone remains unavailable. The PTA previously reported the April and May 2025 data on a combined cumulative basis.
Pakistan continues to meet the vast majority of its mobile phone demand through domestic assembly. Local manufacturing accounted for 86% of the total mobile phone demand in May. This represents a noticeable rise from 83% in April.
Furthermore, locally assembled and manufactured devices met 85% of the country’s total demand during the first five months of 2026. Ultimately, this steady output reflects the sector’s growing contribution to reducing Pakistan’s reliance on imported mobile devices.
