The federal government may soon discontinue its national motorcycle fuel subsidy programme within the next few days, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will make the ultimate decision regarding the future of this targeted relief scheme after consulting with the four relevant provincial governments involved.
The federal initiative was launched in April 2026 to provide financial relief following a sharp increase in global oil market volatility and record domestic petrol prices.
The federal government has already provided financial relief worth Rs 130,000 million to eligible motorcyclists whose personal registration details were verified through provincial excise department data.
Under this specific targeted relief scheme, registered motorcycle owners received a monthly subsidy of Rs 100 per litre for a maximum of 20 litres of petrol.
This financial arrangement provided a maximum monthly benefit of Rs 2,000 per individual motorcyclist and was initially designed by authorities to run for exactly three months.
