Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has called for an investigation into the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) following allegations of overbilling, bribery, prolonged power outages and misconduct in Chunian’s Allahabad area.
The issue was raised through an adjournment motion submitted by treasury member Ahsan Raza Khan. The motion alleged that LESCO officials demanded Rs150,000 from a resident for removing high-tension wires but failed to complete the work. It also accused officials of filing false electricity theft cases and disconnecting consumers’ power connections.
The motion further highlighted allegations of extortion for transformer repairs, delays in meter replacements and load shedding of up to 18 hours a day. Ahsan Raza Khan alleged that the issues were part of a broader corruption network involving officials at different levels.
The Punjab Assembly speaker also criticized recent LESCO raids in Kasur, calling them illegal and raising concerns about alleged harassment, privacy violations and collective power disconnections. He said entire villages were reportedly being penalized over line losses.
Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan also expressed concern over excessive electricity bills faced by flood-affected residents and alleged demands for bribes to correct billing issues. He said he had discussed the matter with Federal Power Minister Awais Leghari and would raise it with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
