Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the distribution of more than 125,000 e-bikes to talented male and female students across the province under the “CM Maryam Nawaz E-Bike Scheme.”
According to media reports, the provincial government will cover the interest and insurance costs for all e-bikes provided under the initiative.
The decision was taken during a special meeting chaired by the Chief Minister to review the scheme’s implementation. During the meeting, she rejected proposals requiring students to make a down payment or pay any charges beyond a fixed monthly instalment.
Officials agreed in principle to set the monthly instalment at approximately Rs3,000 per student.
The Chief Minister also gave in-principle approval to gradually extend the scheme to government employees, public sector departments, and delivery riders, expanding its scope beyond students in future phases.
Maryam Nawaz directed that the e-bike registration portal be opened within the current week and instructed authorities to ensure that eligible students receive their e-bikes within six weeks of applying.
The meeting was informed that each e-bike would come with a free helmet and safety rod and would be fitted with Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries.
On the directives of the Chief Minister, students across the province opting for the scheme will also receive two days of free e-bike riding training before receiving their vehicles.
