Samsung has reportedly changed its plans for the upcoming Galaxy S27 display supplier. Earlier reports claimed the company was close to choosing China’s BOE for the OLED panels. However, new information suggests Samsung Display will now provide the screens instead.
Last month, reports said Samsung was considering BOE because its OLED panels were around $5 cheaper than those from Samsung Display. As a result, many expected the standard Galaxy S27 to use BOE-made displays.
However, Samsung has now reportedly decided against that move. Instead, Samsung Display will remain the OLED panel supplier for the Galaxy S27.
The company has not shared the exact reason behind the decision. Still, reports from South Korea suggest Samsung Display strongly opposed the possible switch. Samsung Electronics already uses BOE panels in some lower-end Galaxy phones. However, Samsung Display has exclusively supplied screens for Samsung’s flagship smartphones.
Reports also claim that some senior Samsung Electronics executives did not support using BOE panels for the Galaxy S27.
BOE joining Samsung’s flagship supply chain would have carried strong symbolic value. It could also have raised questions about Samsung Display’s position within the company.
The decision could also affect Galaxy S27 buyers. Samsung Display’s OLED panels reportedly cost more than BOE’s alternatives. At the same time, Samsung is already facing higher memory and storage costs.
Because of this, Samsung may find it harder to absorb the increased production expenses. As a result, the Galaxy S27 could launch with a higher price than the Galaxy S26 next year.
