Syed Muhammad Taha has officially assumed charge as the Chief Executive Officer of K-Electric with effect from April 15, 2026, marking a significant leadership transition at one of the country’s largest electricity providers.
A seasoned energy executive with more than three decades of experience, Mr. Taha returns to K-Electric at a time when Pakistan’s power sector is undergoing major regulatory and operational changes. He is widely recognized for his expertise in driving operational efficiency, financial restructuring, and organizational transformation across the energy industry.
In his first statement as CEO, he described K-Electric as “Pakistan’s economic heartbeat,” emphasizing the importance of innovation, reliability, and modernization in addressing the utility’s future challenges.
He said the company would focus on improving service delivery, enhancing operational agility, and adopting future-ready technologies to support Karachi’s economic growth.
Before rejoining K-Electric, Mr Taha served as Managing Director and CEO of Pakistan State Oil from 2020, where he led a notable financial turnaround. Under his leadership, PSO moved from losses in FY2020 to strong financial performance by FY2025, reporting net sales of Rs 3.3 trillion and consolidated earnings per share of Rs 35.03.
During his earlier tenure at K-Electric, he served as Chief Distribution Officer, overseeing significant operational responsibilities. His international experience also includes senior leadership roles in Africa’s energy sector, where he contributed to infrastructure modernization projects in Nigeria.
Mr. Taha’s career spans leadership positions at major global energy companies, including Shell and Caltex (Chevron), as well as Pakistan Steel Mills. He holds a professional engineering background along with an MBA in Finance from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi.
His appointment comes as the energy sector continues to face challenges related to demand, distribution efficiency, and long-term sustainability planning.
