The highly anticipated game, The Blood of Dawnwalker, is already a massive hit. Polish studio Rebel Wolves released their debut title on September 3 for PC and current-gen consoles. By yesterday, September 5, the game officially surpassed 1 million sales worldwide.
Consoles Drive the Sales Milestone
The official @DawnwalkerGame X account confirmed this massive sales threshold roughly two days into the global release. Interestingly, console players primarily drove this major milestone. According to commercial estimates from PlayTracker, Gamalytic, and VG Insights, Steam accounted for roughly 308,900 sales. Therefore, PC players made up just under one-third of the total figure.

Consequently, PlayStation presumably contributed the largest single chunk of sales. For instance, the game’s PS Store page showed over 3,800 reviews yesterday afternoon. Meanwhile, the Xbox Store only displayed 277 reviews during that same timeframe.
High Praise Despite PC Performance Issues
Overall, the game boasts incredibly positive critical and player reviews. The title quickly secured an 85 average score and a 93% recommendation rate on OpenCritic. This high praise places the RPG among the platform’s top 7% highest-rated games based on 103 reviews. Reviewers specifically praised the game’s narrative structure, deep vampire lore, and high replayability.
Furthermore, the game reached an impressive peak of 70,692 concurrent players on Steam. Currently, roughly 80% of its nearly 10,000 Steam reviews remain favorable. However, a small discrepancy exists between the Steam score and the OpenCritic score. This gap likely exists because the PC version launched a bit rougher around the edges than the console versions.
Currently, PC players face stuttering in windowed and borderless modes. They also experience crashes during shader compilation and a lack of PS5 controller button remapping. Fortunately, Rebel Wolves has already shared official workarounds for these problems. Additionally, the developers promised that permanent fixes are actively on the way.
A Bright Future for The Blood of Dawnwalker
Ultimately, this early profitability remains extremely important for Rebel Wolves. This new studio consists of many veteran developers who previously worked on ‘The Witcher 3’. They clearly positioned this debut game as merely the first chapter of a brand-new vampire franchise. Going forward, the team intends to span this series across multiple locations and eras.
Because of this strong commercial momentum, publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment has a solid reason to greenlight future sequels. Assuming the publisher hasn’t done so already, fans can definitely expect more from The Blood of Dawnwalker universe.
