As you know that every year millions of Muslims perform Hajj pilgrimage in the holy month of Zil-Hijjah. With over two million pilgrims performing Hajj every year, large crowds are unavoidable some people might get lost or lose track of their loved ones. There have been horrible incidents due to the large crowds during the Hajj’ that have caused loss of life as well.

Though the govt of Saudi Arabia is applying efforts to refine its administration, there are numerous ways technology can come handy to resolve the problems faced by pilgrims. To serve this cause, a mobile app dubbed ‘Tariq’ has been launched which will help to avoid such mishaps and troubles during Hajj. The app uses real-time location sharing feature to help locate your companions.

The real-time location sharing feature can be used after installing the app and it will remain enabled for an unlimited amount of time. Though the app uses Google Maps’ API which gives users a limited time to keep users live-location sharing tuned on. Tariq app makes sure you never lose your loved ones in the large crowds of Hajj by giving a zoom-in to their pinpoint location.

Moreover, Tariq app also features a 3D walking grid display to allow users to easily walk towards their companions going one step at a time. A similar sort of feature has also been introduced by another app — AIMaqsad that provides detailed 3D indoor navigation for Masjid Al Haram. That app is created to assist visitors in determining their location accurately inside the corridor of the Grand Mosque.

While keeping in mind the importance of user’s privacy, Tariq app ensures that your location is only shared with people you trust. This feature helps to protect users from being attacked by any third parties app that manipulates users’ data.

Interestingly, the app does not always need to be turned onto the main display of the user’s phone the whole time. So, the app makes it quite easy to locate your companions even when their app is running only in the background of their smartphones.

Last but not the least, Tariq app also allows users to navigate their way back to a ‘saved location’ such as your hotel room or a holy place without the need of Wi-Fi or Mobile Data.

The app is available to download from both Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
