Xiaomi has quietly taken a step toward its next software cycle by opening the Android 17 Developer Preview program. The move gives early access to a limited set of devices, while also hinting at a shift in how the company plans to align its software naming going forward.
For now, only three devices support the first preview build. These include the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and Xiaomi 15T Pro. However, Xiaomi plans to expand compatibility to more devices in the coming updates.
The Android Developer Program offers early access to the upcoming OS version. As expected, developers can test their apps in this new environment. This helps them prepare for the final release and avoid compatibility issues later.

At the same time, Xiaomi appears to be adjusting its HyperOS naming strategy. Instead of moving to HyperOS 4, the company will pair HyperOS 3.3 with Android 17. Interestingly, Xiaomi has skipped HyperOS 3.2 without any explanation so far.
The first Android 17 and HyperOS Developer Preview already hints at design changes. It lays the foundation for a refreshed HyperOS experience. Still, the current build offers only a limited look at what is coming next. More updates will likely reveal clearer details.
