The United States Agency for International Development(USAID) and Telenor have joined hands to work for the socio-economic progress of Pakistan. Their main aim would be to support initiatives in the fields of Health, Governance, Education and Agriculture.

In this regard, CEO of Telenor Pakistan, Michael Foley and Mission Director of USAID, John Groarke signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to initiate a strategic alliance between both the entities.

On the occasion, Michael Foley said:

“The MoU gives a unique opportunity to carry on mission of using power of digital communications for our country’s empowerment. Through this partnership, we will be able to come up with more innovative mobile solutions in energy, health, education, governance and agriculture sectors by using technological infrastructure, powered by imperative content integration from USAID.”

Also speaking at the event, John Groarke said:

“USAID considers public-private partnerships as an important step in its development endeavors – and a logical progression in expansion and improvement in economic and social services for citizens of Pakistan. Keeping in view the long-term sustainability and continuity, USAID intends on developing more such partnerships across its Pakistan portfolio.”

This is the second news of USAID’s partnerships in Pakistan. A few days ago they partnered with NUST and UET to form energy study centers in Pakistan to come up with solutions to complex energy-related problems. This recent partnership, a combination of Telenor’s digital prowess and USAID’s development expertise, will see to it that the growth of the aforementioned areas (Health, Governance, Education and Agriculture) is accelerated in Pakistan.
