MOITT Unveils Roadmap for Pakistan’s 5G Technology Rollout Starting June 2025
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MOITT) has unveiled a strategic plan for the introduction of 5G technology, planned to debut in June 2025.
The auction process for the 5G spectrum is set to begin next month and will unfold over five phases. In the first phase, the PTA, acting as the competent authority, will provide the consultant’s recommendations to the Spectrum Advisory Committee.
The advisory committee will wrap up the policy reforms in the second phase. In March, the advisory committee will assess and establish the pricing and trading terms for 5G spectrum.
Once these steps are finalized, the federal government is set to approve the policy directive in April 2025, according to the documents. Additionally, the auction is scheduled to be conducted by the PTA in May 2025.
The PTA is set to auction approximately four frequency bands: 700 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz, and 3500 MHz for 5G technology. This is certainly an exciting advancement, as it is thought that 5G technology has the potential to transform the economies and societies of a nation. Thus, the roadmap represents another step in the smooth adoption of this technology by the Ministry.
