Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental, Google’s next-generation flagship AI model, was quietly unveiled. The model wasn’t launched with a grand ceremony, but rather in the changelog of the Gemini chatbot app.
As the IT industry continues to be captivated by DeepSeek, a Chinese artificial intelligence business, Google has released Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental, the next generation of its popular Gemini 1.5 Pro model. When it comes to performance, DeepSeek’s most recent models which are freely available for businesses to use are on par with or even better than many top models developed by American tech titans and AI startups. This has caused a serious examination of practices in Silicon Valley and among top U.S. government officials.
According to Google, the top model in the Gemini AI family is now Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental, which will be accessible to Gemini Advanced users starting Thursday. Its claimed benefits include “stronger performance” and “better factuality” in mathematical and coding contexts.
“Whether you’re tackling advanced coding challenges, like generating a specific program from scratch, or solving mathematical problems, like developing complex statistical models or quantum algorithms, 2.0 Pro Experimental will help you navigate even the most complex tasks with greater ease and accuracy,” Google writes in the changelog.
If you’re a Google One AI Premium subscriber or have the Gemini for Google Workspace add-on, you get access to Gemini Advanced.
As an “early preview,” Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental is subject to “unexpected behaviors” and “mistakes,” according to Google. In addition, some of the capabilities of the Gemini app are incompatible with Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental, and it lacks access to real-time information, unlike other models available in the Gemini app.
“We believe in rapid iteration and bringing the best of Gemini to the world, and we want to give Gemini Advanced subscribers priority access to our latest AI innovations,” the changelog stated. “Your feedback helps us improve these models over time and learning from experimental launches informs how we release models more widely.”
Google has released the Gemini 2.0 Flash model to all users of the Gemini app at the same time as the 2.0 Pro Experimental release, which was announced in December. For the time being, it will serve as the standard model for the Gemini app.
