Amazon To Shut Down Its App Store On Android By August 20 2025

Amazon has announced that it will be discontinuing its Android Appstore on August 20, 2025. In a notice to developers, the company confirmed that it will no longer accept new app submissions. Additionally, Amazon will phase out its Coins digital currency, previously used for purchasing apps and games.

The company has updated its support page to reflect these changes, advising users and developers to prepare for the transition. “Starting August 20, 2025, you will no longer have access to the Amazon Appstore on your Android device. We will also be discontinuing the Amazon Coins program on August 20, 2025,” the company stated on its support page.

Amazon has announced that it will refund any coins that users possess as of August 20. The company stated that the app store was utilised by a limited number of consumers who did not own Amazon devices.

“We’ve decided to discontinue the Amazon Appstore on Android to focus our efforts on the Appstore experience on our own devices, as that’s where the overwhelming majority of our customers currently engage with it,” a company spokesperson said.

The company also stated that the app store will continue to function on its own devices, including the Fire TV and Fire Tablet.

Last year, security researchers at McAfee Labs discovered that an application on the Amazon app store was used to disseminate malware by posing as a health tool.

Since 2011, Amazon has endeavoured to establish an alternative app store ecosystem and contend with Google. The company also attempted to fuel its unsuccessful Fire Phone initiative through its own app store.

Last year, Amazon announced that it would cease to provide support for its app store on Windows, which offered Android applications, effective March 5, 2025. The program for Windows was initially initiated by the company in 2021.
