Samsung is gearing up to unveil its highly anticipated tri-fold foldable smartphone, the Galaxy G Fold, this summer. The new device will join the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 at a major launch event, expected around July. According to reliable sources, production for all three devices will begin in April, with mass manufacturing starting in earnest.
Samsung’s G-Shaped Folding Design
The Huawei Mate XT folds outward, whilst the Samsung G Fold folds inward in the shape of a G. The G-shaped design ensures that the foldable display is completely protected even when closed. The G-shaped design necessitates a 6.49-inch cover display, which serves as the standard display when operating the smartphone in the folded mode. When open, the Galaxy G Fold’s main display is 9.96 inches, which is larger than the proportions of current folding phones and comparable to tablet dimensions.
According to sources, Samsung aims to build 200,000 units of the Galaxy G Fold, implying that the smartphone will have a specific market availability. Samsung manufactures its foldable Galaxy G Fold devices under a restricted manufacturing policy, similar to its earlier experimental models that entered the market with limited quantity.
No S Pen Support
The Galaxy G Fold’s innovative tri-fold mechanism introduces new functionality, but it does not include a major feature that some potential users were anticipating. According to multiple reports, the device is unable to function with the S Pen stylus due to the absence of a digitiser layer. The manufacturers opted not to include a S Pen in order to maintain the thin features of the intricate folding device. However, the absence of stylus compatibility could be a letdown for users seeking a versatile, productivity-focused foldable device.
With foldable smartphones becoming more popular, Samsung’s G Fold could be a significant step forward in the evolution of foldable technology.
