Govt Approves NUST, NUTECH, and COMSATS University Campuses in Karachi
Karachi: The Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, has approved in principle the establishment of campuses for the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), the National University of Technology (NUTECH), and COMSATS University in Karachi. This initiative aims to expand access to higher education in the region.
The COMSATS University will establish its provisional campus at the Council For Works and Housing Research (CWHR) on Hub Road, in conjunction with a Rs. 4.6 billion project proposal (PC-1) for a dedicated Karachi campus.
In 1991, NUST was established as Pakistan’s highest-ranked university. It currently occupies the 355th position globally and the 83rd position in Asia, with a network of campuses that spans the nation, including Karachi.
In 1998, COMSATS University commenced operations and expanded its facilities to include Islamabad, Lahore, and Abbottabad. It has also secured a position among the world’s top 601–800 universities.
NUTECH, a newer institution focused on applied sciences and technology, is expanding its presence to enhance technical education in Pakistan.
The establishment of these universities in Karachi is expected to contribute to research, innovation, and workforce development, benefiting both the city and the country.
