The University of Karachi has released the results of its latest admission test, revealing an alarming 39% success rate. Out of 7,226 candidates, only 2,828 students managed to pass  raising concerns about academic preparedness among applicants for the 2025 intake.

The admission exam, conducted across 20 disciplines including Pharmacy, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Business Studies, serves as the primary entry test for the university’s undergraduate programs. The low pass rate marks one of the sharpest declines in recent years, prompting internal discussions on revising academic standards and preparatory mechanisms.

“The results highlight the urgent need to strengthen students’ academic foundation before university entry,” a KU official said, emphasizing that only a small fraction achieved above-average scores.

Alongside the results, Karachi University also inaugurated the Centre of Digital Forensic Science and Technology (CDFST)  Sindh’s first university-based digital forensic facility.
Funded by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) with Rs. 308 million, the 38,000 sq. ft. center features modern labs, classrooms, and offices, aimed at training students in cybersecurity, digital forensics, and AI applications.

“This center will help Pakistan develop the next generation of cyber defense professionals,” stated a university spokesperson.

Experts note that while the low passing rate reflects challenges in secondary education, the establishment of research-focused centers like CDFST demonstrates Karachi University’s commitment to academic innovation and digital transformation in higher education.
