Spotify is once again increasing the cost of its Premium subscription in the United States, alongside similar changes in Estonia and Latvia. Starting from subscribers’ February billing dates, the monthly price in the US will rise to $12.99, up from $11.99. This marks another step in Spotify’s steady pattern of subscription price hikes.
The increases extend across all major plans. The Duo plan will now cost $18.99, down from its previous price of $16.99. The family plan is moving to $21.99 from $19.99. Meanwhile, the student plan will climb from $5.99 to $6.99. Spotify has begun notifying affected users about the new pricing through in-app messages and emails.
On its own, an extra $1 or $2 per month may not feel significant. However, the repeated rise in subscription costs across digital services continues to frustrate users. Many subscribers now face higher bills across music, video, and cloud platforms simultaneously.
Spotify says these “occasional updates to pricing” better reflect the value it delivers. The company argues that the changes help improve the listening experience and support artists. Still, the added cost does not directly flow to musicians, despite how the message may sound. For users, the update is another reminder that even long-standing subscriptions are no longer price stable.
